On July 15, the South Dakota Water and Wastewater Association Board of Directors voted to cancel the 2020 SDWWA Annual Conference that was scheduled for September 16-18 in Aberdeen. The Board considered many factors, including the uncertain nature of the COVID-19 pandemic, the results of an informal survey of organizations and vendors that attend the conference, feedback from the three organizations that participate in the conference (South Dakota Water Environment Association, South Dakota Section of the American Water Works Association, and the South Dakota Water and Wastewater Association) and feedback from the conference venue. The concern for safety and health of our water and wastewater industry personnel and their important role in public health protection was the key factor in the decision to cancel the conference.
The Board recognizes the networking, social interaction, organizational business and continuing education functions provided by the conference will be missed. The SDWEA, SDAWWA and SDWWA executive boards are considering various options to conduct their annual business meetings. The Annual Conference planning representatives from the three organizations are meeting to consider options for offering online technical sessions to provide continuing education opportunities. We will keep you informed of these events by email, website announcements or other media. Thank you for your vital role in the South Dakota water and wastewater industry, and we look forward to that day when we meet in person again! |
The annual meeting of the South Dakota Section of the American Water Works Association (SDAWWA), and the annual meeting of the South Dakota Water Environment Association (SDWEA) are held in conjunction with the SDWWA Annual Conference.
